What this site collects, which is very little, and exactly where each piece of it goes.

The short version
- Reading the site needs no account. The site sets no cookies and carries no advertising trackers.
- Visits are counted by Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and does not identify you.
- If you give an email address for the update notices, it is used for those notices and nothing else. It is never sold, and never shared with anyone for their own use.
Reading the site
This site is served by Cloudflare. As with any website, your browser's request, including your IP address and the address of the page, reaches Cloudflare's network. Cloudflare uses it to deliver the page and to protect the site from attacks. That processing is covered by Cloudflare's privacy policy.
The site sets no cookies, and its own scripts store nothing in your browser. Cloudflare can set a security cookie of its own if it ever has to check that a visitor is not an automated program.
Visits are counted with Cloudflare Web Analytics. In Cloudflare's words, it "does not use any client-side state, such as cookies or localStorage, to collect usage metrics". It also does not "fingerprint" individuals by their IP address or browser. It tells the site which pages are read, not who read them.
Search and the calculators
The search and the calculators run in your browser. What you type into them is not sent to this site or to anyone else. The one exception: with JavaScript turned off, the search box on the blog puts your words in the page address, and that address reaches Cloudflare like any other.
The update notices
If you sign up for the notices, the site stores four things:
- your email address
- the page you signed up on
- the date and time you signed up
- a SHA-256 hash of your IP address, rather than the address itself. It is used only to stop one connection signing up a flood of addresses in a day, and it is never displayed or exported.
They are kept in a Cloudflare database (D1), in the same account that serves the site.
You get only the notices the form describes: one when the IRS publishes next year's figures, and one when a new guide is published. They are sent through Resend, an email delivery service. Resend receives your address and the message in order to deliver it. The emails carry no tracking pixel and no tracked links.
Every notice has an unsubscribe link, and mail apps that offer a one-click unsubscribe button can use it. After you unsubscribe, your address is kept and marked as unsubscribed, so that nothing is sent to it again.
To have your address deleted entirely, or to ask what is held about you, write to corrections@1099smadeeasy.com from the address concerned.
Links to other sites
Pages link to irs.gov and to Amazon, and each of those sites has its own privacy policy. When you follow a link, the other site learns that you came from 1099smadeeasy.com, but not which page you were reading.
Children
The site is written for adults who work for themselves. It is not directed at children, and it does not knowingly collect anything from them.
Changes
If what the site collects ever changes, this page changes first, and the date at the top says when.
